The 2012 NFL Playoffs draw to their dramatic close as the league's top running games pair up with some of the leagues most dangerous quarterbacks.
Jan 19, 2012 - The 2012 NFL Playoffs have reached their penultimate week, that of the 2012 Conference Championship games where the winner goes to the Superbowl. Squaring off in this week's contests, the Baltimore Ravens will visit the New England Patriots, while the New York Giants head to California to take on the San Francisco 49ers.
The 49ers enter Sunday night's game after winning the NFC West Division with a 13-3 record, twice bowling over the St. Louis Rams in Week 13 in a 26-0 game and narrowly beating the Rams in Week 17 in a 34-27 game.
The Niners carry with them the unique distinction of having the 4th fewest passing yards in the 2011 NFL Season -- just 60 yards more than Rams in 3rd place. On most days, the dynamic RB Frank Gore carries the offense, so it was a surprise when QB Alex Smith passed for 299 yards and 3 TDs in the Divisional Round last Saturday.
Sunday's games again features the unusual pairing of passing versus rushing offenses as the Ravens (19th most passing yards, 10th most rushing yards) face the pass-happy Pats (2nd passing, 20th rushing), while the 49ers (29th passing, 8th rushing) take on the least-rushingist Giants (5th passing, 32nd rushing).
