There are plenty of strange coincidences going on between the St. Louis Rams and the Indianapolis Colts of late, but the connections between these incidents are still somewhat vague.

The Indianapolis Colts hired Ryan Grigson, a former Rams’ scout, as their new general manager on January 11th. Grigson had been rumored to be the leading candidate for the GM position in St. Louis before accepting the job with the Colts.

Many thought Grigson would be okay with Jim Caldwell remaining in Indy as the head coach, but rumors have been swirling that the Colts reached out to Jeff Fisher prior to firing Caldwell just before the Rams officially hired him as their new man in charge. This report from the St. Louis Post-Dispatch was disputed by Colts’ owner Jim Irsay via Twitter as he said: “. . . that St. Louis writer rumor stuff NOT TRUE. . . we weren’t involved in any Fishing expedition.. stayed far clear of it,don’t spread BS.”

The final kicker to all of these connections is the fact that former Rams head coach Steve Spagnuolo met with Irsay to discuss the defensive coordinator position with Caldwell in the room before he was fired. This report was made by Fox Sports’ Jay Glazer.

You may have heard of six degrees of separation, but in this case, the Colts and Rams were more like one or two. This collection of incidents is quite peculiar in its own right, but combine that with the fact that the two clubs select one and two respectively in the upcoming NFL Draft this April, and the eerie similarities just continue to accumulate.
