A couple of lovebirds from St. Louis have located the first $70,000 top prize on the Missouri Lottery âSt. Louis Cardinalsâ¢â Scratchers game.
Kyle Boyd of Brentwood and Heather Franz of St. Charles are engaged to be married later this fall. A shopping trip to Dierbergs, in St. Charles, resulted in the win.
âEvery time we go to the grocery store, we get $20 in Scratchers,â Franz said.
âItâs kind of our small little thing,â Boyd said. âWhenever we go to the grocery store and stock up the pantries, weâll just buy two $5 Scratchers for both of us. If we win our money back, weâre very excited. (We) didnât expect that one.â
Franz picked the âSt. Louis Cardinalsâ¢â ticket.
They scratched the tickets at home with friends as they prepared dinner on March 31.
âNo one was scratching them, and I wanted to scratch mine,â Franz said. âThe first one (line) was $1,000, and then the next one was $1,000. I stopped scratching after a while, because I was like, âThis is insane.'"
Plans for the windfall have already been made.                                                                  Â
âWe really just started planning our wedding a couple of months ago. Itâs perfect timing," Boyd said. "Weâll have a little bit of extra spending money. Down-payment on a house, wedding and honeymoon and a little bit extra to save, and Iâm a pretty happy camper."
Boyd said theyâll keep playing on trips to the grocery store.
