Robert Woods is, like Justin Blackmon and Julio Jones before him, the consensus pick for the St. Louis Rams in 2013 NFL Mock Drafts. What could he produce as a rookie?
May 24, 2012 - The St. Louis Rams are now being tied to USC wide receiver Robert Woods in early 2013 NFL Mock Draft futures with the same frequency they were tied to Justin Blackmon in 2012 and Julio Jones in 2011, so it's worth asking: What could the Rams reasonably expect if they were finally able to catch one of these top-of-the-first-round receiver white whales?
Lucky for us, they've been going after these guys for so long that we now know what Julio Jones (and A.J. Green) were able to do in a full season. Both, for what it's worth, would immediately have been the No. 1 option in St. Louis, where Sam Bradford had only Brandon Gibson to throw to all year, with half-season cameos from Danario Alexander and Brandon Lloyd. Jones was an outstanding deep threat for Matt Ryan and the Atlanta Falcons, catching 54 balls for 959 yardsâ€"that's nearly 18 per receptionâ€"and eight touchdowns. Of course, he would have to be, to make up for the massive trade they made to get him. Green, meanwhile, caught 65 passes from rookie Andy Dalton for 1057 yards and seven touchdowns.
The Rams' leading receiver last year was Lloyd, who managed 683 yards in 11 games. In 2010 Danny Amendola required 85 receptions to lead the team with 689 yards. The Rams' last 1000-yard receiver was all the way back in 2007, when Torry Holt's last huge season was good for 93 receptions and 1189 yards. So if Robert Woods is ready to perform like Jones and Green did last yearâ€"well, come on down.
