The St. Louis Blues have given a one-year contract extension to head coach Ken Hitchcock, this year’s winner of the Jack Adams Award as the NHL’s best coach, according to reports on Twitter by the St. Louis Post-Dispatch‘s Jeremy Rutherford.
Hitchcock took over the Blues after the team fired coach Davis Payne in November.
Under Hitchcock, St. Louis went 43-15-11, won the Central Division and earned the No. 2 seed in the Western Conference. The Blues beat the San Jose Sharks in the first round but fell to the Los Angeles Kings, the eventual Stanley Cup champions, in the second.
St. Louis is Hitchcock’s fourth stop as a head coach. He previously led the Dallas Stars, Columbus Blue Jackets and Philadelphia Flyers. He guided Dallas to the 1999 Stanley Cup.
