St. Louis Cardinals Vs. Cleveland Indians 6/8/12: Mitch's Free MLB Baseball Pick - Sports Chat Place

The St. Louis Cardinals and the Cleveland Indians meet for game one of their series in St. Louis.

The St. Louis Cardinals have looked or played like a team ready to repeat as World Series Champions but there is plenty of baseball left to be played and they are far from out of it at this point. St. Louis is 4-6 in their last 10 games, 13-11 at home this season, and they are 2.5 games back in the N.L. Central as they are sitting in third place. As a team St. Louis is hitting .274 with Yadier Molina hitting .326, Rafael Furcal is hitting .313, and Carlos Beltran is hitting .275. As a team the Cardinals pitching staff has an ERA of 4.02 with the starters at 3.89 and the bullpen at 4.28. For game one against the Indians St. Louis starts Jake Westbrook who has been getting bombed this year. For the season Westbrook has allowed 74 hits and 31 earned runs while striking out 46 over 66 innings of work for a 4.23 ERA.

The Cleveland Indians haven’t been playing their best baseball of the season but they are still close in the A.L. Central. The Indians are 4-6 in their last 10 games, 14-10 on the road this season, and are 1.5 games back in the division. As a team the Indians are hitting .250 with Asdrubal Cabrera hitting .296, Michael Brantley hitting .282, and Shin-Soo Choo hitting .281. As a team the Indians pitching staff has an ERA of 4.46 with the starters at 4.61 and the bullpen at 4.18. For game one in St. Louis Cleveland starts Josh Tomlin who lost last time out. For the season Tomlin has allowed 50 hits and 27 earned runs while striking out 34 over 45.2 innings of work for a 5.32 ERA.

St. Louis is 4-1 in their last five games against the A. L. Central, 3-6 in their last nine games overall, and 1-4 in Westbrook’s last five starts as a favorite. Cleveland is 14-3 in their last 17 game one of a series, 10-27 in their last 37 interleague games, and 4-10 in Tomlin’s last 14 starts as an underdog. Cleveland is 8-3 in the last 11 meetings of these two.

I am not sure why the Cardinals are favored here and especially big favorites butI will take the nice odds with the logical winner here.
