The St. Louis Cardinals and the Colorado Rockies meet on Monday at Busch Stadium for game one of their series as the All Star Break nears.
The St. Louis Cardinals are watching their hopes of repeating as World Series Champions becoming a more difficult task to attain but they have far from packed it in. The Cardinals are 6-4 in their last 10 games, 18-18 at home this season, and they are 2.5 games back in the N.L. Central. As a team the Cardinals are hitting .274 with Yadier Molina hitting .312, Carlos Beltran hitting .310, and Matt Holliday hitting .307. As a team the Cardinals pitching staff has an ERA of 4.07 with the starters at 3.82 and the bullpen at 4.62. For game one against the Rockies St. Louis starts Kyle Lohse who has won two of his last three decisions but his record is littered with six no decisions in his last 10 starts. For the season Lohse has allowed 94 hits and 32 earned runs while striking out 58 over 102 innings of work for a 2.82 ERA.
The Colorado Rockies are having a horrible season and they are just percentage points away from having the worst record in baseball. The Rockies are 4-6 in their last 10 games, 12-23 on the road, and they are 14 games back in the N.L. West. As a team the Rockies are hitting .271 with Carlos Gonzalez hitting .337, Dexter Fowler hitting .289, and Marco Scutaro hitting .284. As a team the Rockies pitching staff has an ERA of 5.42 with the starters at 6.37 and the bullpen at 4.15. For game one at St. Louis Colorado starts Josh Outman who has been drilled in his last five starts. For the season Outman has allowed 37 hits and 29 earned runs while striking out 29 over 28 innings of work for a 9.32 ERA.
St. Louis is 2-4 in their last six games as a home favorite, 0-6 in their last six games as a favorite of -151 to -200, and 8-3 in Lohseâs last 11 starts against the N.L. West. Colorado is 4-0 in their last four games against the N.L. Central, 5-11 in their last 16 games against a right handed starter, and 7-3 in Lohseâs last 10 home starts. Colorado is 2-8 in the last 10 meetings of these two.
This is a monster line but the Rockies just donât look like an option here so Iâll soften the rish financially and take the Cards and lay the run line.
