When a roster undergoes as much turnover as the St Louis Rams squad has over the past handful of months, thereâs no doubt rookies will play a large role in the teamâs transformation. There is no consensus biggest impact rookie for the team among most analysts, but the reasoning behind any of the candidates is certainly valid.
MICHAEL BROCKERS
Letâs begin at the beginning where the Rams draft their franchise defensive tackle of the future in Brockers. He is just 21 years old and has loads of potential, but what has everyone so excited is just how highly Head Coach Jeff Fisher speaks of him. Fisher was with the Tennessee Titans when they added Albert Haynesworth and although they arenât mirror images, Brockers could play a similar dominating style that Haynesworth did when he was motivated.
BRIAN QUICK
The teamâs first second rounder in Quick has seen some tremendous progress throughout the offseason. When he first arrived, some questioned his ability to transition to the next level. Now that he has acclimated, most are saying that it is only a matter of time before he becomes a special player. Quarterback Sam Bradford desperately needs a go-to receiver and Quick has all of the makings of that guy sooner rather than later.
JANORIS JENKINS
This is the consensus choice to be the player who provides the biggest impact to the roster in his first year. Jenkins has looked like a top-tier corner all through camp thus far and pairing him with Cortland Finnegan will only enhance his effectiveness. To forecast a Pro Bowl in year one is a bit premature, but if he continues on his current path, Jenkins will be booking a trip to Hawaii (or wherever the Pro Bowl is) more often than not come February in the future.
During a roster overhaul that is the magnitude of the St Louis Rams, it is sometimes difficult to see the light at the end of the tunnel. Fortunately it seems that the Rams will be seeing some immediate returns for their impressive haul in this past Aprilâs draft. It wonât come without some growing pains of course, but each of these guys will be impact performers in the very near future.
