St. Louis Rams Sign Former Ohio State Standout Vernon Gholston - Bleacher Report

According to ProFootballTalk.com, the St. Louis Rams have signed former first-round pick and college standout Vernon Gholston. Gholston, a defensive end, has been a huge bust in the pros since being drafted sixth overall by the New York Jets back in 2008. He has zero career sacks, and was never a full-time starter on the Jets line. 

St. Louis took a gamble on Gholston because a roster spot opened up when it traded cornerback Josh Gordy to the Indianapolis Colts on Tuesday. 

I can't disagree with a move like this because the Rams line is pretty much set. However, injuries do occur, and Gholston is a young addition to a line that has two pretty solid anchors on both ends. 

Here's where it gets interesting. Gholston was recruited out of high school as a linebacker and played both positions at Ohio State. Things never quite worked out with the Jets, as he only has 42 career tackles. 

Do the Rams try to insert this guy at linebacker? It wouldn't surprise me if at some point, they do. 

We'll see where this one goes. I tend to think the front office and Jeff Fisher may know something about this guy that no one else does. 

Gholston hasn't been a member of an NFL team since last summer, when the Chicago Bears gave him a shot in late July. He was cut after a month.
