After the Lions game that left Scott Wells in the surgery room to repair an injured foot and saw Saffold carted out in an ambulance, we all knew that the Rams were going to have to make some roster moves before Sunday’s game against the Redskins. Earlier in the week Quinn Ojinnaka was brought back in. With the readdition of “Moose,†the Rams will move Turner over to center, with Ojinnaka likely starting at left guard as long as Rok Watkins is nursing an ankle injury.
Yesterday, it was reported that Saffold had made a surprisingly quick return to practice, although he was seeing limited action on the field. This left some to believe that St. Louis would be starting Wayne Hunter at the left tackle spot, making for a completely new left side of the offensive line. However, Saffold did fully participate during today’s practice, which may be a good sign for the Rams.
“Right now, we’re taking it day to day,†Saffold said. “I’m getting movement back, more and more every day. The pain is getting less every day. I’ve really been putting a lot of work into using all of my off time to getting ready.
Wayne Hunter knows the system coming from a Schottenheimer system in New York. However, the Rams have a lot of confidence in Saffold, and undoubtedly would prefer to see him on the field instead of on the sideline.
Several other roster moves came today, starting with the release of one of the  numerous injured defensive linemen. Defensive tackle Darell Scott was let go, which may be a good sign for the return of Brockers, as well as a belief in the rest of the free agent pick-ups that played against Detroit. In his place, Clemen Kellens was re-signed to the roster, giving the Rams a true back-up in case of a Bradford injury catastrophe. It will be good for Bradford to have another knowledgeable quarterback on the sidelines to learn from, especially one who has played for an extended amount of time in this type of West Coast offense.
