St. Louis Rams coach Jeff Fisher is meeting Sunday with Brian Schottenheimer to see whether the two sides can make a deal that would give the former New York Jets offensive coordinator the same job in St. Louis, league sources told ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter.

Fisher and Schottenheimer both have homes in Tennessee, so the meeting was convenient enough.

Fisher picked the opening in St. Louis over a vacancy with the Miami Dolphins last week. The Rams said they are finalizing a contract with the former Tennessee Titans coach.

Schottenheimer interviewed on Friday with Alabama coach Nick Saban regarding the Crimson Tide's offensive coordinator position.

Schottenheimer and the Jets parted ways following a disappointing 8-8 season in 2011. On Friday, coach Rex Ryan, commenting for the first time, called it a "mutual decision."

The Jets hired former Dolphins head coach Tony Sparano as their new playcaller.

In six seasons as the Jets' coordinator, the last three under Ryan, Schottenheimer was a lightning rod for criticism. His ouster was applauded by an angry fan base, which saw the Jets plummet to 29th in total offense and watched as Mark Sanchez regressed in his third season.

Information from ESPNNewYork.com's Rich Cimini was used in this report.
