St Louis Rams: Tuesday's News and Notes at Noon (Shopping Steven Jackson?) - Bleacher Report

Welcome to Tuesday's St. Louis Rams "News and Notes at Noon", the preeminent daily update article for all major Rams headlines and other items of interest for Rams Nation.

Evan Silva Says Rams Will Shop Steven Jackson During Draft

According to a tweet from Evan Silva (senior NFL editor for Rotoworld, writer for NBC Sports & Profootballtalk.com), St. Louis will shop Steven Jackson during the upcoming draft:

Michael Lombardi Suggests that Jackson Wants a New Contract

According to an article by Michael Lombardi of the NFL Network, Rams running back Steven Jackson is reportedly unhappy with his contract and desires a new deal.

The three-time Pro Bowl back has ran for 1,000 yards or more in seven consecutive campaigns and has amassed over 12,000 combined rushing and receiving yards during his career.

In 2010, Jackson become the franchise's all-time leading rusher.

Where Does Steven Jackson Stand in Regard to His Contract?

Mike Sando of ESPN reveals his take on the report shared above from Michael Lombardi for nfl.com.

Sando has some interesting thoughts in regard to this controversial subject, as you can see here.

Alvin Reid Shares an Interesting Theory Regarding Some of the Jackson Rumors

In a piece for 101sports.com, Alvin Reid suggests that the Minnesota Vikings may be behind some of the reports of Jackson wanting a pay raise to solicit the Rams into moving up to No. 3 for running back Trent Richardson.

I am not sure I am jumping on board with that. Nonetheless, the read is pretty interesting.

Rams Need Help at Linebacker

In a piece for stltoday.com, Jim Thomas takes a nice look at linebacker prospects and the current state of the Rams linebacker corps.

St. Louis clearly needs to add not only quality at outside linebacker but also quantity across the board at LB.

Thomas points out that the Rams had three coaches working with only four linebackers. By opening day, the Rams will likely have no less than seven linebackers on the roster.

Some potential draft additions include Mychal Kendricks, Sean Spence, Lavonte David and Zach Brown.

Earlier in the offseason, St. Louis added versatile linebacker Jo-Lonn Dunbar, formerly of the New Orleans Saints.  Dunbar is a favorite to become the team's starting strongside linebacker this fall.

Rams Take Another Look at Three Elite Receiver Prospects

According to a report from Jim Thomas of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, St. Louis took to the air to take a final look at Justin Blackmon, Michael Floyd and Kendall Wright.

Blackmon and Floyd could both conceivably be in play at No. 6 or even in a trade-down scenario.

Wright would likely get very strong consideration if he were to slide to the second round.

Mike Mayock's Top 100 Prospect List

Yesterday, nfl.com released NFL Network draft analyst Mike Mayock's final top 100 prospect list.

Of note, Mayock has Alabama running back Trent Richardson at No. 3, Morris Claiborne at four, Matt Kalil at five, Justin Blackmon at 10, Fletcher Cox at 11, Michael Floyd at 12, Kendall Wright at 16 and David DeCastro at 24.

Each of those players has been mentioned in some capacity for the Rams at either No. 6 or in a trade-down scenario.

Torry Holt and Isaac Bruce to Announce St. Louis Rams Second-Round Picks

Via a tweet from Jim Thomas of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, the Rams dynamic duo of Torry Holt and Isaac Bruce, who made NFL defenses look silly during the historic greatest show on turf run, will announce the Rams second-round draft selections:

It would be incredibly interesting if the Rams were to draft a wide receiver at one or both of those slots with legendary wideouts Holt and Bruce announcing the picks.

That would be quite a welcome for a new receiver entering St. Louis, huh?

Top Five Defensive Backs in 2012 NFL Draft

Former NFL executive Tony Softli, now a versatile contributor for 101sports.com, has posted his top five cornerback and safety prospects for this week's draft in this article.

Softli shares his evaluation criteria as well as several prospects to watch outside of his top five in the aforementioned piece.

What if Matt Kalil Slips to Rams at No. 6?

Mike Sando of ESPN shares his insight via this submission and evaluates the scenario that would see the consensus top offensive lineman in the draft slide to the Rams at No. 6.

A selection of Kalil would allow Rodger Saffold to slide to right tackle and perhaps allow the Rams to take a look at Jason Smith at offensive guard.

Draft Preview: Kicker and Punter

The Rams could certainly be looking at adding a punter in the 2012 NFL Draft after choosing not to retain veteran punter Donnie Jones, who signed with the Houston Texans after four seasons in the STL.

ESPN Bloggers Mock Draft

Mike Sando of ESPN shares the second edition of the ESPN Bloggers first round mock draft here.

This mock draft would make a lot of St. Louis fans happy, according to this.

Have a great day, STL Rams Nation.
