NHL: Hot St. Louis Blues shut out Dallas Stars - San Jose Mercury News

Jaroslav Halak continued a strong stretch of play Monday by making 22 saves en route to his third shutout, and the host St. Louis Blues beat the Dallas Stars 1-0.

T.J. Oshie scored the only goal, coming through at 11:26 of the third period.

"Guys are scoring big goals for me," Halak said. "It's all timing. Sometimes I need to make the key saves for them to keep the score tied, and sometimes they come up big for me. It's a combination right now."

The Blues have earned 13 out of a possible 14 points this month (6-0-1) and are tied with the New York Rangers and Chicago Blackhawks atop the NHL standings with 60 points.

  • The Stars placed center Mike Ribeiro on injured reserve because of a lower-body injury.

Red Wings 5, Sabres 0: Henrik Zetterberg scored the first of Detroit's three goals in the first period, and the Red Wings broke a franchise record with their 15th consecutive home victory.

It is the longest single-season home winning streak by an NHL team since 1976 when Philadelphia won 20 in a row to match a league mark set by Boston during the 1929-30 season, according to STATS, LLC.

"We got booed sometimes last season here, and that was pretty embarrassing," Red Wings forward Drew Miller said. "We've really made playing at home better one of our goals this season, and so far, so good."

Predators 3, Islanders 1: Sergei Kostitsyn and Matt Halischuk

scored on Nashville's first two shots, and Nashville rolled to a victory in Uniondale, N.Y.

David Legwand finished a precision three-way passing play to close out the dominating first period for the Predators.

Bruins 3, Panthers 2: Patrice Bergeron scored two goals and David Krejci scored the winner in the shootout as Boston won in Sunrise, Fla.

Wild: Captain Mikko Koivu apparently will be out at least two weeks because of an upper-body injury.

Coach Mike Yeo said Koivu's status will be evaluated week to week, adding that the center probably will be out until after the All-Star Game on Jan. 29.

Penguins: Sidney Crosby will meet with a specialist this week because of lingering concussion symptoms
