St. Louis Will Be First In Nation To Throw City-Wide Welcome Home For Iraq Vets - KMOX.com

ST. LOUIS (KMOX) -  It started as talk, then progressed to a grass roots facebook campaign.

Now it’s a reality.

St. Louis is in line to be the first American city to welcome military members home from Iraq.

January 28th Parade Committee spokesman Craig Schneider tells KMOX News that his group raised $25,000 for parade costs and the remainder of the money will go to The Mission Continues.

“Everyone’s kind of doing the palm to the forehead, saying ‘Is it real that nobody’s doing this nation-wide, that we’re really doing the first city-wide welcome home?’,” Schneider says.

Schneider wants the Welcome Home event honoring Iraq War Veterans to channel the same energy from the recent World Series Parade for the St. Louis Cardinals.

“There’s a couple of points that we’d really like to get across (to veterans), and one is ‘Thank you”,” he points out. “The second is perfectly stated by the name of our partner group â€" The Mission Continues.”
