Atlanta Braves Vs. St. Louis Cardinals 5/28/12: Tyrone's Free MLB Baseball Pick - Sports Chat Place

The 26-22 St. Louis Cardinals avoided a four-game sweep with an 8-3 win over the 25-24 Philadelphia Phillies today at Busch Stadium. St. L next gets the 26-23 Atlanta Braves who couldn't avoid being swept at Turner Field with a 7-2 loss to the 29-18 Washington Nationals.

Atlanta scored the first two runs of the game during the bottom of the first and third inning. Martin Prado's groundout and Tyler Pastornicky's sacrifice to first base brought home Michael Bourn twice. The Braves. Atlanta however was outhit 9-3 and never struck for another run again on ESPN Sunday Night Baseball.

The Cards scratched in four runs during the bottom of the first on 4-5 Roy Halladay with a 3.98 ERA who left after two innings. Yadier Molina's grand slam did all the damage to make the pitching change for Philadelphia who tallied a run during the top of the third.

St. Louis was back in the scoring column though during the fifth and sixth inning on two home runs. Carlos Beltran had a three-run shot and Mike Adams had a solo HR for the Cardinals who go to Turner to face the Braves beginning early Monday.

Atlanta goes with 5-3 Tommy Hanson and a 3.12 ERA on Memorial Day. The Braves are 2-1 at Turner Field when Hanson throws including outlasting the Phillies 15-13 on May 2. Hanson was manhandled for eight hits and four runs during 3.2 innings. In April the 27-21 New York Mets beat Hanson by sending in five runs, four earned, during seven innings. The 23-24 Pittsburgh Pirates however lost to Hanson 6-1 via him giving up six hits and one run during six innings.

St. L is 9-for-49 with one RBI courtesy of Carlos Beltran's bat on Hanson who won 7-4 at Busch earlier this month. The Cardinals scored once during five innings versus Hanson. 7-1 Lance Lynn with a 2.54 ERA goes for the second time in 2012 against Atlanta tomorrow. The Braves battered Lynn for three runs during six innings to hand him his lone loss of the year.

In away appearances Lynn had been solid until conceding four runs during six innings at the 32-15 Los Angeles Dodgers in a 6-5 St. Louis loss. The 22-26 Arizona Diamondbacks, 15-32 Chicago Cubs, 19-28 Milwaukee Brewers and Pittsburgh tallied three runs during 26.2 innings of four losses versus Lynn. Atlanta is 5-for-23 with three RBIs, all from Jason Heyward, on Lynn. I'll go with the Braves getting the better of Lynn again and the Cardinals snapping a seven-game slide.
