The Atlanta Braves continue to look for answers as they host the St. Louis Cardinals in game two of their series in Atlanta.
The Atlanta Braves’ struggles continue as they lost for the seventh consecutive time falling to the Cardinals on Monday. Dan Uggla, Jason Heyward, and Martin Prado all had hits as the Braves scored two runs on five hits in all. On the mound Tommy Hanson allowed eight hits and six runs despite striking out six as he lasted just 3.1 innings taking his fourth loss of the season. For Tuesday’s game Atlanta starts Randall Delgado who has lost his last five decisions. For the season Delgado has allowed 46 hits and 25 earned runs while striking out 41 over 49.2 innings of work for a 4.53 ERA.
The St. Louis Cardinals have lost the lead in the N.L. Central but they made a move to get it back as they won in Atlanta on Monday. Matt Adams had three hits, David Descalso had two hits including a home run, and Rafael Furcal had three hits including a home run as the Cardinals scored eight runs on 14 hits. On the mound starter Lance Lynn allowed five hits and two runs while striking out eight over seven innings to earn his eighth win of the season. For Tuesday’s game St. Louis starts Jake Westbrook who has been hit extremely hard of late. For the season Westbrook has allowed 60 hits and 20 earned runs while striking out 38 over 56 innings of work for a 3.21 ERA.
Atlanta is 5-2 in their last seven games as a home underdog, 0-8 in their last eight games against a right handed starter, and 1-4 in Delgado’s last five home starts. St. Louis is 7-3 in their last 10 games following a win, 4-7 in their last 11 road games against a right handed starter, and 1-4 in Westbrook’s last five starts. St. Louis has win five of their last six games in Atlanta.
While the Braves have stunk it up good of late and I have been fading them every step of the way this is the one they win, the one where it is less expected as I don’t have a long term belief in the Cardinals either.
