The St. Louis Cardinals and the San Diego Padres meet for game three of their series in St. Louis.
The St. Louis Cardinals are going for a much needed sweep of the Padres as they have watched their once comfortable lead in the NL Central evaporate. On Tuesday Matt Holliday had two hits, Carlos Beltran had two hits and two RBIâs, and Matt Carpenter had a hit as the Cardinals scored four runs on six hits. On the mound Adam Wainwright allowed four hits while striking out nine over a full nine innings for the win in a complete game shutout. For Wednesdayâs game St. Louis starts Lance Lynn who has a loss and a no decision in his last two starts. For the season Lynn has allowed 35 hits and 13 earned runs while striking out 49 over 50.2 innings of work for a 2.31 ERA.
The San Diego Padres Continue to struggle as they are already 14 games back in the N.L. West. On Tuesday Yonder Alonso, Andy Parrino, Blake Tekotte, and Edinson Volquez all had hits as the Padres had four hits in all and didnât score a run. On the mound Volquez allowed five hits and three earned runs over six innings to take his fourth loss of the year. For Wednesdayâs game San Diego goes with Jeff Suppan who has lost his last two starts. For the season Suppan has allowed 20 hits and seven earned runs while striking out four over 21 innings of work for a 3.00 ERA.
St. Louis is 3-5 in their last eight home games, 2-4 in their last six games overall, and 7-2 in Lynnâs last nine starts. San Diego is 11-6 against the N.L. Central, 8-25 in their last 33 road games, and 6-25 in their last 31 road games against a team with a winning home record. San Diego is 12-40 in their last 52 games in San Diego.
St. Louis and Lynn are a big favorite here and for good reason and despite the big price I would be hard pressed to go against them.
