The St. Louis Rams' new offense looks to bear a more-than-passingâ€"and less passingâ€"resemblance to Pat Shurmur's. Poor Sam Bradford.
May 26, 2012 - Here's bad news for anybody who was put to sleep by Sam Bradford throwing behind the line of scrimmage to Danny Amendola seemingly every drive in 2010â€"Turf Show Times has some choice quotes from Steven Jackson and Sam Bradford about new offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer's offense, and both franchise cornerstones brought up Pat Shurmur's offense to compare it with. And not in sentences like, "This is much less boring and conservative than Pat Shurmur's offense."
Click through to the TST post even if that thought fills you with dreadâ€"there's some interesting stuff about a particular wrinkle in Schottenheimer's implementation of the offense, namely his love of the running-back-cum-receiver. I understand that Josh McDaniels's pass-heavy, high-risk offense was an enormous failure in 2011, but I hope the Rams, in hiring Jeff Fisher, haven't made too stark a move in the other direction.
Having been raised on the Greatest Show on Turf offenses, I'm not sure I can deal with the guy who once ran Eddie George 403 times in a season.
