Rumors are flying around that Albert Haynesworth could reunite with his old coach Jeff Fisher.
Albert Haynesworth played his best football under Jeff Fisher in Tennessee. Then Albert Haynesworth got paid. He got paid a whole lot. Then Albert Haynesworth got lazy, and he didn't play well, and he was sent packing.
They say the NFL stands for "Not For Long," and Albert Haynesworth learned the lesson of what have you done for me lately the hard way.
Haynesworth's fall from glory in Washington was tragic theatre, the classic case of an overpaid athlete who just quit trying. Redskins' head coach Mike Shanahan toed a hard line and cut Haynesworth loose. Haynesworth's next stop was New England, where even Bill Bilichick, a coach known for getting the most out of troubled stars, couldn't get Albert to play his best football. Finally, Tampa Bay rolled the dice on Haynesworth, hoping to catch lightning in a bottle.
So now Haynesworth, once the best defensive tackle in the NFL, is 31 years old and out of football. Â
If these rumors about Haynesworth joining the Rams have any truth to them, it would shock me. First of all, it would take an enormous leap of faith for anybody to really believe Haynesworth is the dominant player he used to be. If he was productive, do you really think three teams would have cut him?
Me neither.
Yes or No, should the Rams give Haynesworth a shot?

Second, the Rams have already invested heavily at the defensive tackle position. Kendall Langford was brought in via free agency (4 years, $24 million), and Michael Brockers was the Rams first-round pick (No. 14 overall) in the 2012 NFL Draft.
Would the Rams really bring in Haynesworth if it meant taking valuable reps away from Brockers?
I find it unlikely, but not impossible, that the Rams would really consider bringing Haynesworth back. However, defensive tackle is one position where you need quality depth, and the trio of Brockers-Langford-Haynesworth could give the Rams some serious talent at a position that was a major weakness last season.
But hey, don't take my word for it. Just listen to what Haynesworth said about his possible return to the NFL this season:
"Yeah of course. I still love the game of football. If you can get in the right situation, it would be good for any team and for me. I'm just looking to get back on top and to be the best defensive tackle in football, " said Haynesworth.
Hey, if we rolled the dice on Janoris Jenkins, what can it hurt? Let's see if Haynesworth will put his money where his mouth is. It's the Show-Me State. Offer him a one year, "Show-Me you still got it" contract, and invite him to camp.
Who knows? Maybe Jeff Fisher can bring out the best in Haynesworth. Count me as one guy who thinks it's worth the risk to at least give Haynesworth a shot.
