It is that controversial time of year when American League teams and National League teams spend the next two weeks battling it out for no other reason than giving fans a chance to see players they never would have a chance to see. For the Cleveland Indians, they open interleague play with a three-game series against the defending World Series Champion St. Louis Cardinals on the road.
In the series opener on Friday, June 8 former Indians' starter Jake Westbrook will face off against his former team. The same will be true for Tribe closer Chris Perez, a former Cardinals' draft pick who spent 2008 and part of 2009 with the club.
When the two teams met last in 2009, Cleveland took two of three games and hope they can repeat that performance.
The matchup:
The Cleveland Indians will take on the St. Louis Cardinals at Busch Stadium located in St. Louis, Mo. on Friday, June 8, 2012 at 8:15 p.m. EDT.
Josh Tomlin (2-3, 5.32 ERA) will take the mound for the Indians facing off against the Cardinals' Jake Westbrook (4-5, 4.23 ERA).
The standings:
Cleveland enters the game with a 30-26 record and in second place in the American League Central. They are 14-10 when playing on the road and have won four of their last 10 games.
St. Louis comes into the matchup with a 30-28 record and in third place in the National League Central. They are 13-11 when playing at home and have won four of their last 10 games.
