Missouri Tigers linebacker Marcus Bacon dies in car crash - SportingNews.com

Former Missouri linebacker Marcus Bacon died in a single-car accident on Friday in Houston. He was 28.

Houston police have not released the name of a victim in a fatal crash near the West 610 Loop in the city, but Bacon was identified at the scene as the killed driver, according to the Columbia (Mo.) Tribune, which cites a spokesperson for the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.

The driver was traveling about 90 mph when he failed to observe “turn only” signs. His vehicle struck a curb, flipped and landed near a support pillar, according to KTRK-TV. The station reported that investigators said there was no reason to believe the driver was intoxicated.

Bacon played for Missouri from 2003 to 2006 and totaled 232 career tackles. He was named first-team All-Big 12 in his senior season, when he posted 103 tackles, five forced fumbles and two interceptions.

"RIP to my good friend Marcus Bacon," former Missouri linebacker Sean Weatherspoon wrote on his personal Twitter account Saturday. "I'm in disbelief. Such a good guy gone too early."
