St. Louis Rams help build playground - KSDK

By Katie Felts NewsChannel 5 Sports

Fairmount City, ILĂ‚ (KSDK) - The St. Louis Rams muscled up against something besides the competition on Monday.

They did some heavy lifting to build swing sets and a community.

The rain came, and so did the Rams.

"The St. Louis Rams, you're talking a national football team coming here to little ol' Fairmount City," said Marie Johnson.

They traded in their playbooks for pitch forks to help a town of 2,600, a community with no schools, only a library and now, a place to play.

"This says to the kids, 'We care about you. You are our next generation,'" said Johnson.

"The kids are excited, have smiles on their faces, at the end of the day that's all it's about," said Rams defensive tackle Michael Brockers.

While the Rams may be highly skilled on the field, put a tool in their hand, and that's another story.

A dreary day couldn't keep the people of Fairmount City from beaming about building their future.
