The St. Louis Rams today asked the Denver Broncos permission to interview defensive coordinator Dennis Allen in their search for a new head coach. Allen just came to the team last year, and heâs had resounding success implementing an aggressive 4-3 defense in Denver.
Last week the Jacksonville Jaguars asked the Broncos permission to interview offensive coordinator Mike McCoy for their head coaching vacancy.
The Broncos told both teams that Allen and McCoy could interview, but not until after Thursday afternoon, as these men obviously have important tasks ahead of them.
With that said, do you think itâs right other NFL teams can begin the hiring process in the playoffs? Doesnât it distract coaching candidates who are in the midst of making a playoff run?
Allen and McCoy have the Broncos best interest first, but it does take time and energy to interview for a new position. Hereâs a situation where the coaches have to keep their mind in the game just as much as the players do.
