Houston Astros Vs. St. Louis Cardinals 6/6/12: Mitch's Free MLB Baseball Pick - Sports Chat Place

The Houston Astros and the St. Louis Cardinals meet for game two of their series in Houston.

The Houston Astros aren’t back to being to being a post season quality team but on Tuesday they continued to send the message that they aren’t going to be a pushover. Justin Maxwell had two hits including a home run, Brian Bogusevic hit a home run, and Jose Altuve had four hits as the Astros scored nine runs on 13 hits in all. On the mound Lucas Harrell allowed eight hits and four runs over six innings to get his fifth win of the year and Brett Myers earned his 14th save of the season. For Wednesday’s game Houston looks to starter Bud Norris who has been hit hard of late. For the season Norris has allowed 66 hits and 32 earned runs while striking out 64 over 63.2 innings of work for a 4.52 ERA.

The St. Louis Cardinals continue to look like a beaten team as their rally fell short on Tuesday. Matt Adams had two hits including a home run, Rafael Furcal hit a home run, and David Freese had two hits as the Cardinals scored eight runs on 12 hits. On the mound starter Jaime Garcia was pounded as he allowed five hits and six earned runs while striking out two and lasting just two innings to take his fourth loss of the year. For Wednesday’s game St. Louis starts Adam Wainwright who continues to play his way back into form. For the season Wainwright has allowed 68 hits and 36 earned runs while striking out 57 over 65innings of work for a 4.98 ERA.

Houston is 2-8 in their last 10 games overall, 7-2 in their last nine games against the N.L. Central, and 8-3 in Norris’ last 11 starts. St. Louis is 1-6 in their last seven road games, 0-5 in their last five games as a road favorite, and 1-4 in Wainwright’s last five road starts. St. Louis is 11-1 in Wainwright’s last 12 starts against Houston.

While we are still uncertain what we will see from Wainwright each time out he is still the better option but not enough for me to play it as there are just stronger options out there on today’s schedule.
