After dominating at Coors Field, the San Francisco Giants struggled at Busch Stadium, losing 8-2 to the St. Louis Cardinals to start their four-game series. Playing against a team with much success at home, the Giants will face an even more dominant starter than Jake Westbrook in All-Star Lance Lynn.
The big right-hander has had great success for the Cardinals all season. In his last five starts, Lynn is 3-0 with a 2.70 ERA and has not allowed a run at home in 12 straight innings. If there's one hope for the Giants, it is that Lynn did struggle against the team at home back on June 2, allowing five runs over 5.1 innings of a 12-7 loss.
Giants starter Barry Zito on the other hand is currently in one of his roughest stretches of the season. After going 0-2 with a 7.56 ERA in his last three starts, he also has a 1-6 record, 5.23 ERA, and 1.81 WHIP against the Cardinals in his career. Also considering that current Cardinals have batted .289 lifetime against Zito, the Giants may need to rely on great performances by their hitters and bullpen to potentially tie the series.
