It seems as though St. Louis Cardinals fans are passed the phase of missing their former star first baseman, Albert Pujols.

Pujols, who signed with the Los Angeles Angels this past off-season, left his restaurant (the Pujols 5 Grill) along with his statue in St. Louis. Since Pujols left, and Cards fan are less then forgiving, there is now a security guard keeping watch over the statue.

From the St. Louis Post:

[The guard] stood outside, keeping an eye on the bronze depiction of Pujols pointing at the sky. Inside the restaurant, the operators were trying to take the superstar player’s departure in stride, adding angel food cake to the menu in honor of the move to the Angels of Anaheim.

“I feel the same way I did when [Tony] La Russa retired,” said David Hanon, son of restaurant owner Patrick Hanon. “It’s going to take a little bit of time to get over it.”

The restaurant will stay, Hanon said.

“It’s a sad day,” Hanon said. “We’re losing somebody we’ve loved for 11 years. (But) as long as his number stays 5, we’ll stay here.”

In this video, thanks to , his statue is blown up by an errant asteroid.

So far Pujols has gone 3-for-10 with two doubles and an RBI, but the Halos dropped two of three games to the Kansas City Royals and the Angel Stadium crowds went home without seeing a Pujols long ball. I am sure that will change sooner rather then later.

I expect the Cardinals fans anger to pass and for Pujols to stay one of the elite superstars the MLB has ever seen.
