The St. Louis Cardinals will have to deal with another Lance Berkman injury.

May 20, 2012 - The St. Louis Cardinals look set to deal with another Lance Berkman injuryâ€"the veteran first baseman suffered a knee injury of unknown severity in their shutout loss to the Los Angeles Dodgers Saturday, leaving the Cardinals with their most severe injury problem yet in a month that's been pockmarked by them. Matt Adams, AAA Memphis's gargantuan slugger, could be set to join the Cardinals this week after leaving Memphis's game early. He's hitting .340/.375/.603 so far, with 10 doubles, nine home runs, and, alas, just nine walks. (In case you're looking, here are some nickname options for Matt Adams aside from the more obvious Robin Williams reference.)

Berkman returned to St. Louis for an MRI, which is scheduled for Monday.

Berkman, 36, has played in just 13 games so far for the Cardinals; he's hitting .333/.429/.571 in that limited action. He joins backup first baseman Allen Craig on the disabled list, leaving the Cardinals without a right-handed platoon partner for both Adams and his April replacement, Matt Carpenter.
